Kwangjin Lee, Chief of Busan Coast Guard, Expresses Gratitude to Tugboat of Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation
601 Baekryongho Contributes to Tanker Rescue Operation in Severe Weather Conditions
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Yoseop] On the morning of the 28th at around 9:30 AM, Lee Gwangjin, Chief of the Busan Maritime Police Station, visited Pier 1 in Jungang-dong, Jung-gu, Busan, to express his gratitude to the "Tugboat 601 Baekryong," operated by the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, for its contribution to rescuing a vessel with engine failure despite severe weather conditions.
According to the Busan Maritime Police, the 601 Baekryong safely towed and brought the tanker A (2,458 tons, registered in Busan, with 13 crew members), which was drifting with emergency anchoring due to engine failure about 3 km east of Oryukdo, to Pier 1 of Busan Port on the 27th, even under a storm warning issued for the waters off Busan.
At that time, typhoon-level strong winds and rain struck the accident area, making it difficult to arrange other tugboats and conduct towing operations. Nevertheless, the 601 Baekryong collaborated with the Busan Maritime Police and the Central Maritime Special Rescue Team to safely dock at Pier 1 of Busan Port at around 9:30 AM on the 28th.
