Operation of 'Safety Security Guards' in Gangseo-gu, Seoul
Safety Hazard and Vulnerable Area Inspections and Reporting in Daily Life... Seasonal and Timely Safety Culture Campaigns
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) operates the ‘Gangseo-gu Safety Guardians’ to eliminate safety negligence practices in daily life and spread a safety culture with the participation of residents.
The Safety Guardians consist of 55 residents who are well acquainted with the area and have activity performance and expertise, including neighborhood leaders and members of disaster and safety organizations, and will carry out activities for 23 months starting from February.
They play a role in actively reporting chronic safety violations among the seven major practices and work with the district office to conduct safety inspections and promote the spread of safety culture.
The seven major practices are ▲illegal parking ▲blocking emergency exits ▲speeding ▲not wearing seat belts ▲not wearing protective gear at construction sites ▲smoking while hiking ▲not wearing life jackets on ships.
The procedure is that after the Safety Guardians detect violations through inspections in each neighborhood, they report them to the Safety Report Center, and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety designates the responsible department, which then informs the Safety Guardians of the action results.
In particular, using Safety Inspection Day (the 4th of every month), they plan to conduct safety culture campaigns to widely spread the importance of safety by providing necessary safety information according to seasons and timing.
An official from the district said, “Resident participation and interest are essential to spread the increasingly important safety culture,” adding, “We will create a safe environment city Gangseo-gu where life is comfortable together with residents who know the area well and have a sense of mission.”
