Eunpyeong-gu Hosts 'Social Economy Education and Promotion Exhibition'
Special Lecture by Kim Young-sik, Secretary-General of the National Social Solidarity Economy Local Government Council... Exhibition to Promote Social Value Awareness Held for 10 Days from the 29th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) will hold the ‘Social Economy Education and Social Economy Promotion Exhibition’ on the 29th to create a better social economy in Eunpyeong through coexistence and solidarity.
This event is significant as it is the first collaboration between Eunpyeong-gu’s social economy intermediary support organization, the Eunpyeong-gu Social Economy Hub Center, and the Eunpyeong Social Economy Innovation Valley Center, which opened at the end of last December, to promote the development of Eunpyeong’s social economy.
The social economy education will take place at 2 p.m. on the 29th at Eunpyeong Hall, where Kim Young-sik, Secretary General of the National Council of Local Governments for Social Solidarity Economy, who is exploring and practicing the current status and possibilities of social economy and social innovation, will present on the theme of ‘Social Economy Innovation for a Better Future of Eunpyeong.’ The session will cover △Why social economy now? △Social economy as a regional development strategy △The current state of Korea’s social economy △The potential of Eunpyeong-gu’s social economy △Innovation strategies of social economy enterprises. There will also be presentations of successful enterprise cases by Yoo Sun-geum, Executive Director of Eunpyeong Dure Consumer Cooperative, and Kim Do-gyeong, CEO of Herstory Masil Cooperative.
Additionally, the social economy promotion exhibition will be held in the lobby on the first floor of Eunpyeong-gu Office from January 29 to February 7 for 10 days. Through this exhibition, the aim is to raise awareness of the social economy and expand consensus on social values.
Furthermore, promotional materials produced by social economy enterprises will be displayed to help promote the purchase of their products.
An event official stated, "We hope that many social economy enterprises, residents, and staff active in Eunpyeong-gu will participate in this event, making it an opportunity to broaden awareness and the importance of the social economy."

Social economy refers to economic activities in which members of society voluntarily participate and cooperate not only for individual benefit but also for common interests and happiness, solving social problems and creating social value. It includes (preliminary) social enterprises, village enterprises, cooperatives, etc. Currently, about 250 social economy enterprises are active in Eunpyeong-gu.
