[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, is conducting the ‘Seolnal Traditional Market Livelihood Tour’ from the 16th to the 22nd, visiting traditional markets within Seongdong-gu to celebrate the Lunar New Year holiday.
Starting with a visit to Majang Livestock Market, the largest meat market in the metropolitan area, he sequentially visited Wangsimni Doseondong Shopping District, Geumnam Market, Yongdap Shopping Market, and Ttukdo Market to encourage merchants, listen to their difficulties, and pay attention to safety issues within the traditional markets.
On the 22nd at 3 p.m., Mayor Jung visited Ttukdo Market, the final location of the livelihood tour, and inspected the automated external defibrillators (AEDs) installed last September by Seongdong-gu, the first autonomous district in Seoul to invest its own budget to install AEDs in nine traditional markets and shopping districts within the area.
Mayor Jung Won-oh stated, “Most visitors to the markets are elderly, and cardiac arrest patients can appear anytime and anywhere. To increase visitors to traditional markets, we must create an environment where people can visit with peace of mind. Local governments should actively lead the distribution of automated external defibrillators so that AED installation in traditional markets and shopping districts can be legally mandated.”
