Shinhan Financial Group Selected for 8 Consecutive Years as a 'Top 100 Global Sustainable Management Companies'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Shinhan Financial Group announced on the 22nd that it has been the only domestic company to be selected for 8 consecutive years in the 'Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations' announced at the Davos Forum.
Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, the 'Global 100' is a global sustainability index evaluated by Corporate Knights, a Canadian media group and investment research firm. Based on 21 performance indicators such as resource and financial management and leadership diversity, the list of the top 100 companies with the highest scores is announced every year at the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland, targeting 7,395 companies worldwide (public companies with sales over 1 billion dollars).
Shinhan Financial has been selected for the Global 100 every year since 2013. This year, it was ranked first among domestic companies and 43rd globally, and was ranked 6th among global financial companies following ING Group, Banco do Brasil, BNP Paribas, Intesa Sanpaolo, and National Australia Bank. Notably, Shinhan Financial was invited for the first time since its inclusion to the Global 100 Roundtable held in Davos, Switzerland, participating as a representative Korean company.
The Global 100 Roundtable was attended not only by executives from leading global financial companies but also by leaders from energy, IT, and food companies, as well as representatives from United Nations (UN) organizations, discussing sustainable economic activities in the financial and industrial sectors to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Since Chairman Cho Yong-byeong's inauguration, Shinhan Financial has continuously pursued systematic ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) activities at the group level. In particular, based on the group's mid- to long-term eco-friendly vision 'ECO Transformation 2020' declared in 2018, it has invested and supported 20 trillion won in green industries and received high evaluations for environmental management activities that reduced greenhouse gases by 20% compared to 2012.
Additionally, last month, it declared the 'Group Climate Change Response Principles,' further advancing its existing environmental management activities, proactively managing latent environmental and social risks in financial support projects, and actively leading efforts to promote a low-carbon economy.
