Sangju-si, Gyeongbuk, Opens Nakdongganggyo, the Longest Suspension Bridge in Korea
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jucheol In] Sangju City, Gyeongbuk Province, held an opening ceremony for the Nakdonggang Bridge connecting Nakdonggang Gyeongcheon Island and Hoisang Ferry on the 21st. Nakdonggang Bridge is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in Korea, with a length of 345m and two main towers reaching a height of 37m. The construction cost 11.7 billion KRW.
A pedestrian suspension bridge is a type of bridge hung by cables attached to main towers, designed for people to walk across. The project started in 2016, and in September 2019, the name Nakdonggang Bridge was selected through a public contest.
With the opening of Nakdonggang Bridge, a new 4.5km Nakdonggang exploration trail has been completed, connecting Donam Seowon along the Nakdong River - Gyeongcheon Island - pedestrian suspension bridge - Gyeongcheon Island water exploration path - Sangju Weir - Donam Seowon.
This also enables connection of surrounding tourist resources, such as linking the east and west sides of Gyeongcheon Island, which is located in the middle of the Nakdong River.
