"Disappeared with Money Bags Claiming to Buy Bitcoin Cheaply... Police Launch Investigation"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seong-yeol] An incident occurred where a suspect fled with a money bag after meeting someone under the pretense of buying cryptocurrency Bitcoin at a low price, prompting the police to track the suspect.
On the 20th, Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station announced that on the afternoon of the 18th, Mr. A reported the theft of a money bag containing 400 million won at a motel in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, and the police have launched an investigation to find suspect Mr. B, estimated to be in his 40s.
It is known that Mr. B, who was acquainted with Mr. A through social networking services (SNS), told Mr. A, "I will buy Bitcoin at a low price," and they met at the motel.
Mr. A first handed over the money bag at the motel, and Mr. B transferred the contents into a travel bag he had prepared in advance.
After handing over the money, Mr. A requested a verification photo as the Bitcoin had not been transferred to his electronic wallet.
Mr. B told Mr. A, "There seems to be an error," and "It takes a long time for it to enter the electronic wallet," then handed the travel bag back to Mr. A, saying he would work at his office.
However, it was revealed that the travel bag contained miscellaneous items such as beverages with a weight similar to that of the money.
The police confirmed that Mr. B had purchased two identical travel bags 8 hours before entering the motel.
