Land Rover Launches Pre-Order for Premium SUV 'New Discovery Sport'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Jaguar Land Rover Korea announced on the 20th that it will begin pre-orders ahead of the official February launch of the Land Rover premium family sports utility vehicle (SUV), the New Discovery Sport.
This model, newly released after five years, focuses on the core values of the Discovery Sport?versatility, space utilization, comfort, top-notch on- and off-road driving performance, and design infused with Discovery’s DNA?realizing innovations at the level of a new car and equipped with cutting-edge technology.
The New Discovery Sport adopts Land Rover’s latest design language, showcasing the confident stance of the Discovery family. Newly applied LED headlamps, a cleanly designed front grille, sporty front and rear bumpers, and elongated lower air intakes give a dynamic yet robust impression.
The interior space is designed based on the core DNA of practicality and versatility, enhancing usability as a family and leisure activity SUV. The rear seats, including a recline function, can slide forward and backward by 160mm, providing ample and comfortable space for all passengers from children to adults. The storage space has increased by about 17% compared to the previous model, and the center console cubby box can store up to 9.9 liters, offering generous storage capacity. The trunk space has expanded to 897 liters, with a maximum cargo capacity of 1794 liters available.
The latest infotainment system, Touch Pro2, features a larger 10.25-inch screen with improved resolution and response speed, and the buttons for climate control and drive mode operation have been changed to modern touch-sensitive buttons. The 12.3-inch full HD interactive driver display allows operation not only of basic instrument functions but also navigation, phone, and advanced safety systems, ensuring safer and more convenient driving.
The New Discovery Sport offers a total of three output options with Ingenium diesel and gasoline engines. The 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine is available in 150 horsepower and 180 horsepower variants, delivering powerful torque of 38.8 kg·m and 43.9 kg·m respectively. The 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo gasoline engine produces a high output of 249 horsepower and a maximum torque of 37.2 kg·m, delivering dynamic performance. Additionally, the New Discovery Sport is the first to apply a mild hybrid system. The vehicle’s BiSG (Belt Integrated Starter Generator) and 48-volt lithium-ion battery store energy during driving to assist engine operation. When driving below 17 km/h, the engine stops running, and the stored energy is used to accelerate the engine when driving resumes. This improves fuel efficiency by about 6%, maximizing fuel economy.
Furthermore, the fully automatic Terrain Response system 2, which detects road conditions and sets the optimal driving mode, and the All-Terrain Progress Control (ATPC), which automatically controls the powertrain and brake system according to road conditions at speeds below 30 km/h, help the New Discovery Sport demonstrate its performance and stability on any rugged terrain. Also, the Intelligent AWD system, first applied from the New Discovery Sport, distributes torque only to the front wheels during normal driving to improve efficiency and minimize power loss.
In addition, many of Land Rover’s latest technologies that enhance driving convenience have been newly installed. The ClearSight rearview mirror, which functions as a normal room mirror but can provide a clear rear view when needed, and the optional ClearSight Ground View system, which secures a forward view as if looking through the bonnet, are innovative features newly equipped on the New Discovery Sport.
Convenience features have also been updated. T-map navigation can be used through Apple CarPlay, and the console storage space includes a smartphone wireless charging function. An interior air purification sensor and air ionizer are applied to automatically block external air inflow when pollution is detected outside, maintaining a pleasant indoor air environment.
