This pilot project is a housing welfare and urban regeneration-linked initiative that provides vacant houses to young people to create regional vitality.
LH formed the 'Gwangju Gakhwa Housing Regeneration Task Force (TF) Team' with the Gwangju Urban Regeneration Community Center and local youth organizations, and has been promoting the project in cooperation with the Gwangju Social Innovation Platform Executive Committee.
In this regard, LH remodeled the aging vacant houses by installing built-in appliances using its own budget since September last year. In October of the same year, after recruiting tenants, 20 young activists were selected.
The young people who moved in this time can live in permanent rental housing at an affordable rent of around 100,000 KRW per month. They will hold at least one young tenant meeting every month to discuss ways to revitalize the local community, and participate in resident community activities or prepare for start-ups for more than two hours each month.
Depending on the results of this pilot project, LH plans to expand the project to other aging permanent rental complexes nationwide.
