[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) is implementing a ‘Lunar New Year Comprehensive Plan’ covering six areas: resolving residents’ daily inconveniences, transportation, safety, snow removal, price stabilization, and fostering a warm holiday atmosphere, to ensure residents can spend the Lunar New Year safely and comfortably.
The district office will convert its comprehensive situation room into a task force headquarters during the Lunar New Year holiday and conduct 24-hour emergency duty for six days from the 23rd to the 28th. Centered on the comprehensive situation room, 189 personnel across eight teams?including the cleaning task force, emergency medical task force, snow removal task force, and illegal parking enforcement team?will work continuously without any gaps.
Additionally, the comprehensive situation room will report daily cleaning status, holiday comprehensive plan progress, and various incidents and accidents at 4 p.m. via the district executives’ communication group (Naver Band) to ensure rapid dissemination and handling of emergencies.
◇ Resolving Residents’ Daily Inconveniences
To maintain clean and pleasant streets and prepare for emergencies, the district operates the cleaning task force situation room and emergency medical task force situation room.
The cleaning task force situation room, composed of 300 personnel divided into three teams?cleaning situation team, patrol team, and cleaning mobile team?will operate from the 24th to the 27th, implementing △receipt and handling of cleaning complaints △patrolling and cracking down on illegal dumping △collecting accumulated garbage mainly on major roads and residential areas.
The district health center will provide information on medical institutions and pharmacies available for treatment and prescription during the holiday through the emergency medical task force situation room and its website (http://health.ddm.go.kr/).
On the 26th, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the health center will also conduct on-site medical treatment on the 4th floor.
◇ Transportation and Snow Removal Measures
To prevent difficulties in residents’ travel during the holiday, the comprehensive situation room will provide information on extended public transportation operating hours and intensively crack down on taxi refusals near Cheongnyangni Station and illegal parking on congested roads.
Parking spaces will also be secured for visitors to the area. From the 24th to the 27th, the district office parking lot and parking spaces at 13 local elementary, middle, and high schools will be opened free of charge.
Additionally, limited-time parking will be permitted on certain sections of roads near six traditional markets, including Gyeongdong Market and Cheongnyangni Wholesale Market, until the 27th to help residents visit traditional markets more conveniently.
The district implements a pre-notification system for snow removal emergency duty for staff to prepare for sudden heavy snowfall. Furthermore, team-based workers and substitutes will be designated in advance to ensure smooth snow removal operations during snowfall.
◇ Safety Inspections
To ensure a safe holiday without unexpected accidents, thorough safety inspections will be conducted on various facilities. These include △Yongdu 5 District redevelopment construction site △six large construction sites such as Dongbu Agricultural Market, Cheongnyangni 4 District, Hwikyung 1 District, and 16 large-scale construction sites under construction in the area △61 road facilities including overpasses and underpasses △rivers and river facilities △gas supply facilities △parks and green spaces △multi-use facilities such as bathhouses. Prevention activities will also be strengthened to prevent forest fires in Baebongsan and Cheonjangsan.
◇ Price Stabilization Management
The district operates a price countermeasure situation room and special inspection team to reduce consumers’ burden from price increases during Lunar New Year and establish proper distribution order.
From the 23rd to the 28th, the district will conduct △verification of price tag compliance for all items sold in 43 retail sectors including department stores and supermarkets △monitoring price trends of 15 agricultural, marine, and livestock products such as pears, apples, pork, beef, pollock, and croaker △monitoring and providing price information on six personal service fees including hairdressing, bathing, and jjimjilbang (Korean sauna) usage fees (available on the district office website).
Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “We will do our utmost with our staff to ensure residents can spend a safe and comfortable Lunar New Year holiday.”
