[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) announced that on the 16th, it held the inaugural Resident Participatory Budget Research Committee appointment ceremony at the district office planning situation room and officially launched the committee.
The Resident Participatory Budget Research Committee is composed of 10 members including professors, professionals in related fields, civic groups, and resident participatory budget committee members. The first meeting included the awarding of appointment letters, election of the chairperson, review of last year's resident participatory budget implementation results, and guidance on future plans.
The newly elected Chairperson, Jiyong Bae, expressed, "While engaging with the participatory budgeting system, I thought institutional supplementation and support were much needed. I am pleased to take part in this first step toward the development of the resident participatory budget system through this opportunity," showing anticipation for future activities.
Going forward, the research committee will carry out various activities such as proposing directions and opinions for the efficient operation of the resident participatory budget, conducting operational evaluations and suggesting improvements, policy formulation, and research and development.
Last year, the district selected 48 projects out of 197 proposed by residents, with a total budget of 1.497 billion KRW, implementing various projects including support for people with disabilities and multicultural families, strengthening youth autonomous activities, and road and facility maintenance.
Additionally, to expand resident participation in the budgeting process and enhance local fiscal transparency, online voting (M-Voting) was conducted for project selection.
