Jeonnam Police Implement 'Special Traffic Management for Lunar New Year Holiday'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 19th that it will implement special traffic management measures to reduce traffic congestion on highways and national roads during the Lunar New Year holiday period.
This year’s Lunar New Year holiday is shorter than last year’s, with the heaviest traffic expected on the morning of the 24th for outbound travel and the afternoon of Lunar New Year’s Day for return travel.
Accordingly, as the first phase, from the 18th to the 22nd, the five days before the holiday, the police will focus on managing congested areas such as traditional markets and large supermarkets where holiday preparations take place.
In the second phase, from the 23rd to the 27th, including the holiday period, 350 personnel including traffic and local police, riot squads, and exemplary drivers, along with 153 vehicles such as patrol cars and large motorcycles, will be deployed to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety on outbound and return routes.
In particular, the Jeonnam police plan to minimize inconvenience to residents by temporarily allowing parking and stopping for up to two hours on roads around 62 traditional markets for 10 days from the 18th to the 27th to revitalize traditional markets and improve convenience for residents.
Additionally, high-risk behaviors such as speeding, reckless driving, and selfish driving on highways will be intensively monitored using undercover patrol cars (2 units) and a police helicopter (1 unit).
During the vulnerable hours for drowsy driving over the Lunar New Year holiday, the Jeonnam police will prevent traffic accidents in advance through alarm patrols (siren operation) and real-time patrols of vulnerable sections.

A Jeonnam police official said, “Drivers on outbound and return routes are advised to check traffic information in advance through radio traffic broadcasts, mobile apps, and electronic signboards to avoid congested times and roads. We also ask for mature driving, including wearing seat belts, maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, and refraining from cutting in and driving on the shoulder.”
