Seoul Gangseo-gu Provides Diapers and Infant Formula Support for Low-Income Families
Point Distribution for Diapers and Formula Milk for Infants Under 24 Months... Expanded This Year to Include Disabled and Multi-Child Families Below 80% of Median Income
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is expanding the target of the "Diaper and Infant Formula Support Project" to reduce the economic burden on low-income families with newborns starting this year.
Previously, support was provided to recipients of basic livelihood security, near-poverty groups, and single-parent families with infants aged 0 to under 24 months.
From this year, the district has expanded the support scope to newly include households with disabled members earning 80% or less of the median income (based on a family of four, 3,799,000 KRW) and multi-child households (two or more children) earning 80% or less of the median income.
Accordingly, a total budget of 800 million KRW, an increase of 300 million KRW from last year, has been secured, and support is expected to be available for up to 1,000 recipients.
Infant formula support is provided only to mothers who cannot breastfeed due to illness among the diaper support recipients or to children in infant adoption families.
The support amount is 64,000 KRW per month for diapers and 86,000 KRW per month for infant formula, paid as voucher points on the National Happiness Card.
If the application is made within 60 days from the infant's birth date, support is provided for the full 24 months; if it exceeds 60 days, support is provided only for the remaining period until the infant reaches 24 months.
Applications can be made by visiting one of the 20 community service centers in Gangseo-gu or the Health Management Division on the 3rd floor of the public health center.
A district official said, "We are significantly expanding support for families eligible for diaper and formula assistance starting this year," and added, "Households with infants under 24 months should carefully check the required documents and be sure to receive support."
