Chinese Companies Rank 4th in U.S. Patent Acquisition Share After the U.S., Japan, and Korea
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] China has ranked 4th in U.S. patent share, surpassing Germany for the first time, following the United States, Japan, and South Korea.
Xinhua News Agency reported on the 15th, citing U.S. patent information service provider IFI Claims, that among mainland Chinese companies, Huawei and BOE Technology ranked 10th and 13th respectively in U.S. patent acquisitions last year, with two companies ranked within the top 15.
It also reported that last year, mainland Chinese companies acquired 16,900 U.S. patents, an increase of 34.14% compared to the previous year. The growth rate of U.S. patent acquisitions by Chinese companies last year was the highest among major countries. The growth rate of U.S. patent acquisitions by American companies was 15.95%, ranking second.

Larry Cady, Senior Analyst at IFI Claims, explained, "China has been the fastest growing country in patent acquisitions in recent years, and most of the filed patents are in technology fields." He also evaluated, "In this regard, Chinese companies show an optimistic attitude that the U.S.-China trade dispute will eventually be resolved, allowing them to enter the U.S. market."
