Chonnam National University Department of Forensic Medicine Operates 'Forensic Medicine Internship' for Medical Students Nationwide
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] The Department of Forensic Medicine at Chonnam National University announced on the 14th that it is conducting the '2020 Department of Forensic Medicine Winter Internship Program,' having strictly selected 10 students from 7 universities nationwide through applications and blind tests from medical college and medical school students.
These students will receive various forensic medicine education, including autopsy observation, visits to the National Forensic Service, and case law studies, divided into the first session from the 6th to the 10th and the second session from the 13th to the 17th.
This program was planned after the Korean Medical Students Association (hereinafter KMSA) surveyed the 'fields of greatest interest among medical students in 2019,' with forensic medicine internships ranking first (17.8%). It is hosted by KMSA and organized by the Department of Forensic Medicine at Chonnam National University.
Since its establishment in September 1993, the Department of Forensic Medicine at Chonnam National University has produced the largest number of forensic medicine experts among domestic universities through systematic forensic personnel training education. It has gained nationwide reputation by sending many graduates to the National Forensic Service and the Scientific Investigation Division of the National Police Agency.

Professor Jongtae Park, former president of the Korean Society of Forensic Medicine and a faculty member of the Department of Forensic Medicine at Chonnam National University, said, “At a time when the paradigm of medical education is changing, the importance of forensic medicine education dealing with 'citizens' human rights' is increasingly emphasized,” adding, “I hope this program will serve as a catalyst for raising social interest in forensic medicine and establishing institutional measures for training forensic medicine experts.”
