President Moon: "Prosecutorial Power Has Decreased Compared to the Past but Remains Strong"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] President Moon Jae-in said, "The prosecution's authority has decreased compared to the past, but it is still formidable."
On the 14th, President Moon held a New Year's press conference at the Blue House State Guest House under the subtitle "Definite Change, Republic of Korea 2020," stating, "The prosecution must always conduct strict investigations into living powers, past powers, or cases related to themselves," and added, "If any case is not properly investigated, the fairness of the investigation will lose the trust of the people."
He also said, "Yoon Seok-yeol gained public trust through so-called strict investigations and investigations that do not yield to power," and "If Yoon Seok-yeol takes the lead in correcting the prosecution's organizational culture and investigative practices that are criticized by the public, recognizing that the prosecution is an institution that must also be subject to democratic control, it will gain much more trust from the people."

This is President Moon's third New Year's press conference. Unlike previous years, since he announced the New Year's address on the 7th, the conference proceeded in a Q&A format after a brief opening remark of about three minutes without a separate New Year's address. The Q&A with reporters was divided into three topics: politics and society, livelihood and economy, and diplomacy and security, without pre-selecting questioners.
