[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jongno-gu (District Mayor Kim Young-jong) will open the '2020 Lunar New Year Sister Cities Direct Market' at Taeyang Garden, Jonggak Station, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 16th in celebration of the upcoming traditional holiday, Seollal.
This direct market is held to provide residents with high-quality local agricultural products and specialties at affordable prices through the participation of Jongno-gu’s sister cities, creating opportunities for exchange and cooperation between urban and rural areas.
About 70 items will be sold with the participation of sister cities partnered with Jongno-gu, including Gokseong-gun, Naju-si, Andong-si, Anseong-si, Yeoju-si, Yeongwol-gun, and Jeongeup-si.
The items range from ancestral rites supplies to grains and fruits, and will be sold at prices approximately 10-20% lower compared to market prices.
In celebration of the Lunar New Year, Jongno-gu will hold the '2020 Seollal Donation Sharing Event,' collecting donations such as goods from the district office, community service centers, and local residents to deliver to neighbors in need through local food markets.
The donation period is from the 7th to the 21st, and the items include long-lasting foods such as canned goods, canned beverages, ramen, rice, and seasonings, as well as daily necessities like soap, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, detergent, tissue paper, and socks. However, fresh foods such as meat, side dishes, refrigerated foods that can spoil at room temperature, as well as medicines, functional foods, and baby food are excluded from donations.
The donation delivery ceremony, filled with the warm hearts of residents, will be held at 10 a.m. on the 23rd. Officials from the Jongno-gu Social Welfare Council and others will attend, making it a time to unite in spreading a culture of giving in daily life.
