President Moon Jae-in's New Year's Press Conference Draws Attention to North Korea Message
President Moon Jae-in is scheduled to hold a New Year's press conference on the 14th at the Blue House's State Guest House, where he will reveal his vision for the new year through a Q&A session with domestic and international reporters. Attention is focused on whether a message regarding the improvement of inter-Korean relations will be delivered.
View original imageThis year, North Korea, which unusually omitted the New Year's message to the South, revealed on the 14th through its external propaganda media that the reason was South Korea's 'dependence on foreign forces' and 'betrayal of the nation.'
On that day, the external propaganda media Meori cited domestic experts' analysis regarding the omission of the message to the South at the 7th Central Committee's 5th Plenary Meeting of the Workers' Party held at the end of last year, in an article titled "Blind Obedience Breeds Disregard, Betrayal Invites Contempt."
The media stated, "South Korea's research institutes and experts on North Korea policy have put forward various claims, among which the notable point is that many experts evaluated that 'words related to inter-Korean relations never appeared at the plenary meeting,' and that 'an explicit stance of disregard toward the South was expressed.'
It continued, "If that evaluation is correct, then why the South Korean authorities must be disregarded," criticizing the ROK-US cooperation and the introduction of strategic weapons to the South.
Meori said, "Since the announcement of the historic North-South declarations, our Republic has consistently taken proactive, sincere, and magnanimous measures for their implementation, while also giving advice and warnings to the South Korean authorities to prioritize national interests over 'cooperation' with foreign forces in resolving national issues."
It added, "However, the South Korean authorities have ignored fundamental and principled issues for the implementation of the North-South declarations, blindly following the United States and failing to implement any clause of the declarations agreed upon with us," it claimed.
Furthermore, "Rather, they have not hesitated to provoke the anger of the entire nation by covertly bringing in advanced war equipment, conducting joint military exercises with foreign forces, and persistently engaging in military hostile acts aimed at their own kin, acts of betrayal," it raised its voice.
Meori questioned, "What can be expected from the South Korean authorities who blindly follow foreign forces without any backbone or independence?" and argued, "The South Korean authorities, who cannot even discuss internal national issues without the approval of the United States, have become shackled by the chains provided by their master, unable to do anything, and thus their disregard and cold treatment is ultimately self-inflicted."
Meori emphasized again, "Blind obedience breeds disregard, and betrayal invites contempt," and stated, "There is no doubt that the South Korean authorities will pay dearly for the betrayal of trust and promises."

Meanwhile, the report from the 7th Central Committee's 5th Plenary Meeting of the Workers' Party at the end of last year, which effectively replaced Chairman Kim Jong Un's New Year's address this year, made no mention of inter-Korean relations. In the approximately 18,000-character plenary meeting report, the term 'North-South relations' did not appear even once. This contrasts with last year's New Year's address, where 'North-South relations' was mentioned ten times.
