EU Considering Ban on Plastic Packaging
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The European Union (EU) executive body, the European Commission, is reportedly considering a ban on plastic packaging.
On the 13th (local time), according to Bloomberg News, Virginijus Sinkevi?ius, EU Commissioner for Environment and Oceans, stated in an interview with the German daily 'Die Welt,' "We definitely want to expand regulations on single-use plastics and are currently researching what directions are possible."
He explained, "Important measures will include, for example, banning plastic packaging or regulating the use of recycled plastics."
The EU passed legislation last year in the European Parliament that completely bans the use of 10 types of single-use plastic products, such as straws and cotton swab sticks, starting from 2021.
