Korean Party: "Don't Become Regime's Lackey" vs Justice Party: "Unconstitutional Organization, Not a Political Party"... The Fateful Day of 'Proportional OO Party'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] The decision on whether the satellite party of the Liberty Korea Party, 'Proportional Liberty Korea Party,' can use its party name will be made on the 13th. The National Election Commission will hold a full committee meeting at 3 p.m. at the Gwacheon office to decide whether to allow the new party name containing the word 'Proportional.'
Not only the Proportional Liberty Korea Party but also the preparatory committees for the Proportional Democratic Party and the Proportional Korea Party are subject to this decision.
Shim Jae-cheol, the floor leader of the Liberty Korea Party, said at a press briefing on the 12th, "If the Election Commission disallows the use of the name, it proves itself to be a lackey of the government," and added, "If it does not want to be suspected of political bias, it should prove its neutrality in the meeting."
On the other hand, the Justice Party criticized the Liberty Korea Party's satellite party as a 'trick' and requested the Election Commission to intervene. Kang Min-jin, spokesperson for the Justice Party, stated in a commentary on the 12th, "There is no limit to how outrageous this can be," and criticized, "If a party's name and even its representative are decided according to the will of another party (Liberty Korea Party), then the Proportional Liberty Korea Party is nothing more than an unconstitutional organization that cannot be recognized as a legitimate party."
The Democratic Party has officially announced that it will not form a satellite party. However, a third party unrelated to the Democratic Party has registered to establish the Proportional Democratic Party using a similar name, raising concerns about 'impersonation damage.' The Democratic Party has requested the Election Commission to disallow the use of the Proportional Democratic Party name. Ultimately, as both ruling and opposition parties have expressed different positions regarding the name 'Proportional OO Party,' the Election Commission's decision on this day is expected to bring mixed reactions.
