Strengthened Crackdown on Environmental Pollution Before and After Seollal... "Report and Receive Up to 3 Million KRW Reward"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Ministry of Environment announced on the 12th that it will conduct special monitoring and crackdown activities focusing on pollution-vulnerable areas nationwide, such as pollutant-emitting business sites and water source protection zones, during the Lunar New Year holiday.
This special monitoring and crackdown involves about 680 environmental officials from 7 regional environmental offices and 17 metropolitan and provincial governments. It will be conducted at over 3,100 businesses suspected of emitting high concentrations of fine dust, chemical handling companies, about 850 basic environmental facilities, and major industrial complexes nationwide.
The special monitoring and crackdown is divided into three stages before and after the Lunar New Year holiday. First, Stage 1 (January 14?23) involves advance publicity, guidance, and special crackdowns. Notices for preventive measures and cooperation for voluntary inspections are sent to over 32,600 pollutant-emitting businesses and public sewage treatment facility personnel nationwide.
Monitoring and crackdown will be strengthened on about 3,100 businesses suspected of emitting high concentrations of fine dust, including high-concentration toxic wastewater emitters such as dyeing and plating companies, large construction sites, and thermal power plants, as well as chemical handling companies.
Stage 2 (January 24?27) will operate a situation room during the holiday period and prepare for environmental pollution accidents through strengthened patrols in vulnerable areas such as industrial complex emission sites and water source river systems, as well as environmental pollution reporting channels.
Any citizen who discovers environmental pollution acts can report by calling 110 or 128 without an area code (for mobile phones, call 128 with the area code) to the environmental pollution reporting center.
If the reported content is confirmed to be true and administrative agencies take administrative actions, rewards ranging from a minimum of 30,000 KRW to a maximum of 3,000,000 KRW will be given.
Stage 3 (January 28?31) will provide technical support to small and vulnerable businesses to ensure that environmental pollutant treatment facilities can resume normal operation after the holiday.
