12 Dead in Refugee Boat Sinking off Greece's Ionian Sea... Rescuing Missing Persons Underway

Greek rescue authorities received a distress call at around 9:15 a.m. and dispatched teams to the scene, rescuing 21 people and recovering the bodies of 12 others from the Ionian Sea southwest of Paxi Island.
The exact number of passengers on the vessel is unknown, but based on testimonies from the rescued migrants, authorities estimate that at least 50 people were on board.

The authorities have deployed coast guard vessels and helicopters to conduct search and rescue operations for the missing. A nearby merchant ship passing through the area is also reported to be assisting with the rescue efforts.
