'Drunk Driving' Rapper Jang Yongjun Indicted Without Detention Three Months After Referral
Charges Including Drunk Driving and Driver Substitution
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] Jang Yong-jun (20), a rapper and son of Jang Je-won, a member of the Liberty Korea Party, has been indicted on charges including drunk driving and driver substitution. This comes about three months after the police forwarded the case with a prosecution opinion in late September last year.
The Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Jae-seung) announced on the 10th that Jang was indicted without detention yesterday on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (dangerous driving causing injury), violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving), aiding a criminal, and violating the Special Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud.
According to the prosecution, Jang is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol and colliding with a motorcycle on a road near Gwangheungchang Station on Seoul Subway Line 6 in Mapo-gu, Seoul, between 2 and 3 a.m. on September 7 last year.
At the time, the police alcohol test showed Jang's blood alcohol concentration was 0.12%, which is above the license cancellation level (0.08% or higher). Jang was not injured in the accident, while the victim sustained minor injuries.
Additionally, Jang is charged with contacting an acquaintance, A, immediately after the accident to attempt a driver substitution (aiding a criminal) and falsely reporting to the insurance company that A was driving when the accident occurred, constituting a violation of the Special Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud.
A, who was not present at the scene during the accident, appeared during the police investigation and testified that he was the driver, not Jang.
However, Jang later admitted to drunk driving during the police investigation.
A is also reported to have been indicted along with Jang on charges of aiding a criminal and violating the Special Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud.
