$100,000 Export Contract on the 8th, First Shipment of 16 Tons Achieved
Expansion of Persimmon Exports and Competitiveness Strengthened through Freshness Preservation Technology Applied
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kang Sharon] The Gyeongsangnam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services announced on the 9th that the region's major specialty product, sweet persimmons, have been officially exported to the Vietnamese market, proving their excellent quality and competitiveness.
Since early this year, a shipment ceremony for the export of sweet persimmons from Jinyeong, Gimhae to Vietnam has been held, and on the 8th, a $100,000 export contract was signed in Buk-myeon, Changwon City, with the first shipment of 16 tons of sweet persimmons dispatched to Vietnam, achieving significant results.
Sweet persimmons from Gyeongnam account for 57% of the nationwide cultivation area and 64% of production volume, making them a major income crop. More than 5,000 tons are exported annually to Southeast Asia and North America, serving as a key export agricultural product.

The Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services is making multifaceted efforts to pioneer Vietnam, where the Korean Wave is gaining popularity, as a new export market for sweet persimmons. At the end of last year, the plant quarantine issues were resolved with the announcement of export quarantine guidelines by the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency, and since the beginning of this year, the export of sweet persimmons to Vietnam has been actively promoted.
