'Gangdong-gu Working Moms 114 Rights Protectors' Launched
Role as Ambassador for Promoting Maternal and Human Rights Protection in Labor
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) held the "Gangdong-gu Working Mom 114 Rights Keeper Launch Ceremony" on the 8th at the Gangdong-gu Office small conference room in collaboration with the Seoul Eastern Region Working Mom Support Center to protect the labor rights, maternal rights, and human rights of working moms raising children while working.
The Gangdong-gu Working Mom 114 Rights Keeper consists of a total of 11 members, including representatives from 10 institutions and organizations supporting working moms in Gangdong-gu, as well as working moms themselves.
The participating institutions and organizations include the Social Cooperative Gongjon, Gangdong-gu Labor Rights Center, Gangdong Women's Human Resources Development Center, Seoul Gangdong-gu Childcare Comprehensive Support Center, Gangdong-gu Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center, Seoul Disabled Parents Solidarity Gangdong Branch, Gangdong-gu Family Counseling Center, and the local women's activist group Shinnaneun Women Jagaljagal, among others.
Through the launch ceremony held that day, the Rights Keepers will serve as ambassadors who provide advice to improve labor rights through work-family balance for working moms in Gangdong-gu, and promote and implement social awareness changes to guarantee maternal rights and human rights in labor.
Prior to this, on December 10th last year, the district signed a business agreement with the Seoul Eastern Region Working Mom Support Center to improve labor rights for working mom workers, expecting a synergistic effect through mutual cooperation.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, "One of the underlying reasons for the recent record low total fertility rate is the accumulated difficulties faced by working moms raising children while working," and added, "I hope the local community will work together to solve the difficulties experienced by working mom workers in Gangdong-gu."
Gangdong-gu has enacted ordinances to protect and promote labor rights, established the Labor Rights Center as the first directly managed organization among Seoul's autonomous districts, and provides a one-stop labor welfare service that integrates all functions such as jobs, labor, welfare, small business support, and counseling for emotional laborers for residents.
