"US Investigators Question Gon Former Chairman's Children at Tokyo Prosecutors' Request"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] It has been reported that U.S. investigative authorities questioned the children of former Nissan Motor Chairman Carlos Ghosn last month at the request of the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office regarding Ghosn's special breach of trust charges.
According to NHK on the 8th, Anthony, Ghosn's son, was investigated by U.S. authorities under the supervision of a Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office special division prosecutor on suspicion that part of the funds related to Ghosn's special breach of trust charges were transferred to an investment company in which Anthony is involved in management.
Ghosn is accused of special breach of trust for embezzling part of the funds Nissan spent on an Oman sales agency, causing the company damages of 550 million yen (approximately 5.9 billion KRW). However, Anthony reportedly stated during the investigation that "the investment company's funds are believed to have been transferred from my father's assets."
U.S. investigative authorities also requested Ghosn's daughter to explain the operation status of a yacht in connection with Japanese prosecutors' suspicion that part of the funds related to Ghosn's special breach of trust charges were used to purchase a yacht.
Ghosn, who was awaiting trial on bail, escaped Japan and fled to Lebanon at the end of last month.
Meanwhile, Ghosn is scheduled to hold a press conference in Lebanon at 10 p.m. Korean time today, where he is expected to claim that he was a victim of an internal Nissan coup backed by Japanese government officials and criticize Japan's judicial system.
