Suwon Samsung Goalkeeper Kim Dasol Apologizes Over Controversial SNS Post Saying "I Will Part Ways with Coach"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Sung-yeol] Suwon Samsung Bluewings goalkeeper Kim Da-sol apologized to the club, coaches, and fans over controversy surrounding his SNS post.
In the early morning of the 8th, Kim Da-sol shared on his Instagram story a handwritten letter from his wife and a family photo. The letter contained a message of support for Kim Da-sol as he headed to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), for preseason training.
However, the controversy arose from another part of the letter.
Kim Da-sol's wife wrote in the letter, "The season hasn't even started yet, but already having growling matches with Bongsu feels really uncomfortable... Let's just endure this year well. Next year, whether it's Samsung or somewhere else, I want to part ways with Bongsu. I can't stand it."
As suspicions grew among fans that "Bongsu" referred to Kim Bongsu, the goalkeeper coach of Suwon Samsung Bluewings, Kim Da-sol deleted all his Instagram posts and issued an apology.
Kim Da-sol said, "Yesterday, due to my thoughtless SNS post, I caused great disappointment to Coach Kim Bongsu, many supporters who love Suwon, and football fans. I deeply reflect on my inappropriate behavior and sincerely apologize with a bowed head to Coach Kim Bongsu and everyone disappointed by this incident."
He added, "As a public figure, I will always take responsibility and reflect on my actions, and I will be more careful in all my behavior to ensure that such an incident never happens again."
A Suwon Samsung official stated, "Kim Da-sol expressed that it was a 'thoughtless act' and apologized, and it is not at a level that requires an official statement. It seems like a simple misunderstanding," defending Kim Da-sol.
