[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] Ko Yoo-jung (37), who is on trial for murdering her ex-husband and stepson, completed the 10th and final pre-sentencing hearing on the 6th. Meanwhile, her current husband posted online urging for Ko Yoo-jung’s death penalty. He emphasized that she must be sentenced to death, describing her as a "devil," "creepy," and a "serial killer."
On the previous day (the 7th), Mr. A, the current husband, posted a message titled "A Review of the Horrible 10th Hearing" on an online cafe.
In the post, Mr. A lamented, "Yesterday was the 10th hearing. People around me say things like, 'Isn't it a bit better by now?' but I still become extremely sensitive and always stressed whenever the hearing day approaches."
He continued, "Yesterday felt like one of those days when anger surged even more. Because I had to listen to a serial killer’s entire novel."
Regarding Ko Yoo-jung, who appeared as the defendant, the current husband claimed, "Ko Yoo-jung seemed to have come out with a firm resolve. Her long-winded nonsense, which makes no sense to anyone, was basic. She even smiled at the prosecution’s evidence presentation, whispered with her lawyer whenever there was time, and showed a very polite demeanor toward the court."

He questioned, "Did I only care for OO (Mr. A’s biological son) and always ignore Ko Yoo-jung’s Kang OO?" and then expressed his outrage, saying, "That is a truly ungrateful expression not worth even a moment’s consideration."
He asserted, "I naturally like children and believe that I must love others’ children to receive love for my own. In fact, Ko Yoo-jung didn’t even know how to buy clothes for the children, so I personally bought and sent clothes every season change."
He added, "Moreover, I took care of everything for the children on anniversaries and public holidays, and the children really liked it. That was a small joy for me," and reiterated, "One of the things I said most often was that children only have the right to be loved, so they must be treated with love. I said this dozens, hundreds of times."
Regarding the accusation that they quarreled during Ko Yoo-jung’s pregnancy because of him, he countered, "Even during the early pregnancy stage, when she should have been very careful, she flew to and from Jeju Island alone without consulting me, which caused fights. Also, due to ongoing conflicts with Mr. Go OO (Ko Yoo-jung’s father) over the family rental car business, I was actually more worried and repeatedly pleaded to reduce the stress."
About the recorded phone conversations with Ko Yoo-jung’s mother, he said, "This part really scared me and gave me goosebumps. The calls were from the day OO died and afterward. In front of me, she acted so sad, but when she turned around and talked to her mother, she was cold, calm, and inhuman..." He was at a loss for words.
He continued, "Not once during several calls did she mention being sad or heartbroken about OO’s death. She only showed a self-centered attitude. Seeing that, I thought she was truly a devil, and I felt unbearable rage at myself for being deceived."
He raised his voice, saying, "How can a person wear a human mask and say such things? When the prosecution or court asked direct questions about the case, she showed fake tears that didn’t even come out, suddenly stopped sobbing, and consulted with OOO (her lawyer). I could only think she was not human."
The current husband stated, "I can say for sure that the words ‘life imprisonment’ or ‘death penalty’ do not exist in Ko Yoo-jung’s mind. Even now, she is probably planning how to live in society after serving a few years. I believe that illusion and delusion will soon be shattered."
Finally, he mentioned the death penalty for Ko Yoo-jung. He urged the court, saying, "Ko Yoo-jung, the death penalty is the answer for you. Spend your life completely isolated from society, suffering in loneliness until your death. That will help those around you and our society."
Earlier on the 6th, the Jeju District Court Criminal Division 2 (Chief Judge Jeong Bong-gi) held the 10th hearing for defendant Ko Yoo-jung, who was arrested and indicted on charges of murder and corpse mutilation and concealment.
On that day, the prosecution presented circumstantial evidence that Ko Yoo-jung deliberately murdered her stepson and disclosed recorded conversations. According to the released recordings, on February 22 of last year, about a week before the stepson A’s death, at 1:52 p.m., Ko Yoo-jung was heard saying during a fight with her current husband, "Should I just kill him (A)?"
The prosecution also stated, "One hour before making that statement, Ko Yoo-jung searched online for news articles about a murder case that occurred four years ago." The murder case involved a man in his 50s suffocating his mother, who had dementia, by pressing her face with a pillow in 2015. The prosecution argued that there were many similarities to Ko Yoo-jung’s case.

Meanwhile, the witness examination of Ko Yoo-jung’s younger sibling, scheduled for that day, was withdrawn. Ko Yoo-jung’s defense attorney explained, "We judged that it is appropriate to impeach the evidence of this case with documentary or physical evidence, so we withdrew the witness examination."
