[CES2020] Audi Unveils 3D Mixed Reality HUD... Jointly Developed with Samsung
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Audi will redefine the future digital experience by unveiling vehicles ranging from futuristic vision cars to soon-to-be-released production models at CES 2020.
On the 7th (local time), Audi revealed the mobility 'Audi AI:ME show car' that interacts with occupants at CES 2020 held in Las Vegas, USA. The show car is also equipped with a 3D mixed reality head-up display (HUD) jointly developed with Samsung.
The safe and automated AI:ME show car learns the user's habits and interacts with occupants by utilizing intelligent functions combined with artificial intelligence. It stores frequently used destinations and derives the optimal route using data linked to date, time, and current traffic conditions.
Audi quickly identifies user preferences and actively implements them. It also observes driving style and biometric functions, adjusting settings according to the user's condition. At this CES, Audi showcased a prototype vehicle, allowing visitors to experience the basic functions of Audi Intelligence Experience.
The on-demand display jointly developed by Audi and Samsung is a 3D mixed reality display that appears as if floating 8 to 10 meters ahead. This technology enables a visibility distance of over 70 meters, and once accustomed to the long-distance view, there is no need to strain the eyes to refocus.
Currently, Audi models offer top-level networking, supported by the new third-generation modular infotainment called MIB3. Thanks to a main processor that is 10 times faster than MIB2, route planning and traffic situation prediction have been dramatically improved.
Audi also introduced the latest lighting technology at CES 2020. When the driver feels fatigued, special lighting helps alleviate tiredness. Audi's 'human-centric lighting' project demonstrates how targeted lighting colors can aid occupants' concentration and memory, as well as influence emotions.
