Busan Jung-gu Mayor By-election, Who Will Become the Efficient Manager?
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jonghyo] The outline of the Busan Jung-gu Mayor by-election, held together with the 21st National Assembly election on April 15, is emerging.
The Jung-gu mayor by-election is being held after former Mayor Yoon Jongseo was prosecuted for violating the Public Official Election Act, and his election invalidation sentence was confirmed in November last year.
The Busan Jung-gu Election Commission began registering preliminary candidates for the by-election from the 3rd. As of the 7th, the preliminary candidates for Jung-gu mayor registered on the Central Election Commission website are three in total: Choi Jinbong, former chairman of Jung-gu Council from the Liberty Korea Party; Kwon Hyukran, director of Sinchang Nursing Hospital from the Liberty Korea Party; and Ahn Poong, chairman of the Busan Editing Design Association, running as an independent.
Candidate Choi is making a re-challenge for the Jung-gu mayor election. He served in the Jung-gu Council for 10 years from 2008 and was re-elected as chairman of the council, which is considered a strength due to his extensive practical experience. Candidate Choi stated that to revitalize the old downtown area, he will focus on ▲ developing the Yongdusan Park public parking lot, ▲ developing the international market, ▲ attracting vocational schools, ▲ revitalizing surrounding stores through urban regeneration projects, and ▲ developing the North Port.
Candidate Kwon is a medical welfare expert who has served as vice president of the Busan Metropolitan City Korean Medicine Association and chairperson of the Korean Female Korean Medicine Association delegates, and operates a nursing hospital. She has long been involved in women's circles, having worked as a special advisor on women's policy during the era of Hong Junpyo, leader of the Grand National Party, and active in the Liberty Korea Party Central Party Women's Committee. Candidate Kwon pointed out population decline as the biggest problem in Jung-gu and said she will devote herself to projects such as ▲ apartment construction, ▲ relocating the Jung-gu office, and ▲ North Port development.
Candidate Ahn, who completed preliminary candidate registration as an independent, will have his party affiliation decided through the Democratic Party of Korea Busan City Party membership qualification review on the 9th.

Meanwhile, Moon Changmu, a city council member from the Democratic Party of Korea who was rumored to run, did not register as a preliminary candidate. Council member Moon, who has a history of running for mayor and National Assembly member in the past, dismissed the matter by saying, “I know there is much to do in the city council,” and “I think it is a matter for the party to decide, so I have no intention of moving without the party’s decision.”
