20s Police Officer Caught Illegally Filming in Women's Restroom
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Heo Midam] An active-duty police officer was caught by the police for illegally filming in a women's restroom.
The Tongyeong Police Station announced on the 7th that they have booked and are investigating Officer A (26), affiliated with the police station, without detention on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (filming using a camera, etc.).
Officer A is accused of entering a women's restroom in a commercial building in downtown Tongyeong at around 10:30 PM on December 20 last year and illegally filming a woman who was using the restroom with a mobile phone.
When the victim sensed something suspicious and shouted, Officer A fled but was caught the next day by police tracking him through closed-circuit television (CCTV).
It was reported that Officer A was not on duty at the time of the incident.
During the police investigation, Officer A reportedly stated, "I did it impulsively out of curiosity." He was suspended from his position on the 23rd of the same month.
