Announcement of the '2020 Busan City Industry-Academia Cooperation Research and Development Project'
Busan City Promotes Regional Growth Through Industry-Academia and University Research Collaboration
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Yoseop] Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP) announced on the 7th the ‘2020 Busan City Industry-Academia Cooperation Research and Development (R&D) Project’ aimed at creating a university-centered regional innovation ecosystem.
Busan City will support a total budget of 3.9 billion KRW across four projects and plans to select candidates through a public competition targeting universities and research institutes located in Busan.
The four projects include ▲University R&D Seed Planning ▲Creation of University Innovation Research Complex ▲Operation of Open Research Labs for Regional Specialized Technology Development and Diffusion ▲Regional Excellent Researchers’ Enterprise-Linked Commercialization and Technology Development (R&BD). These are intended to utilize the excellent infrastructure and research achievements possessed by universities in the Busan area.
In particular, the ‘University R&D Seed Planning Project’ and the ‘University Innovation Research Complex Creation Project’ are new initiatives promoted according to the ‘Plan for Revitalizing University R&D and Strengthening Industry-Academia Cooperation’ established in October last year, and are the core of this project.
Detailed information on the support targets, scale, fields, schedule, and other specifics for the four projects will be announced and posted on the BISTEP website.

Lee Jin-mo, head of the University Cooperation Division of Busan City, said, “Last year, Busan City’s University Cooperation Division was established for the first time nationwide, and support for improving the technological capabilities of local companies and developing new products using universities is being strengthened. We hope an atmosphere will be created where researchers from universities and companies can interact and voluntary industry-academia cooperation can take place.”
