Asiteji Winter Festival Opens on the 8th... 12 Performances Including Kim Min-gi Directed Video Musical
[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] The video musical play "Dad, Your Face Is Pretty," directed by singer Kim Minki, will open the "2020 Seoul ASSITEJ (International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People) Winter Festival" starting on the 8th.
The ASSITEJ Winter Festival, now in its 16th year, is the only domestic festival dedicated to children and youth performing arts. This year's winter festival, under the theme "A Different World," talks about a world that accepts differences, a world different from yesterday that we create, and a world of different dimensions imagined beyond space and time like Einstein, aimed at children who will lead the future. The festival features various works dealing with themes such as 1980s mining villages, refugees, the meaning of words and expressions to convey one's feelings, and reflections on what home means.
The opening work "Dad, Your Face Is Pretty" portrays the lives of people in a 1980s mining village through the eyes of three elementary school children. Director Kim Minki created it based on his own experiences living in a mining village and the diaries of children from the mining village. The recommended viewing age is six and above. It will be performed on the 8th and 9th at the Jongno Children's Theater.
Starting with "Dad, Your Face Is Pretty," a total of twelve performances will be held until the 19th at venues including Daehangno Arts Theater Small Theater, Jongno Children's Theater, Dongyang Arts Theater, and JCC Creative Center. These include ten main performances and two New Challenge performances.
The ten main performances include four finalists of the 28th Seoul Children's Theater Awards: ▲ "Imaginative Physical Dance" by Movement Theater Oh! My Life ▲ "Cat on the Road" by Cultural Sympathy Irang ▲ "Umbrella Thief" by Studio Nanadashi ▲ "Chair, Table, Chair" by Team Funist. Established in 1992, the Seoul Children's Theater Awards is the only award for domestic children and youth performances.
Starting from this winter festival, an artistic director system has been introduced for the first time, with director Bae Yoseop leading the festival for three years. Artistic Director Bae Yoseop received acclaim last year for directing the play "Human Fugue," based on Han Kang's novel "The Boy Is Coming."
In addition to performances, various side events are prepared, including "Rolling Book Playground," where over 60 kinds of picture books donated by Jaeneung Education can be viewed; "Paper Box Theater," a space built with paper houses where children and youth can watch short films and animations or listen to music; and theater play experiences with parents.
