View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City will reissue the bid for the extension of Seoul Subway Line 7 to Cheongna by integrating Sections 1 and 2 into a single contract after two failed bidding attempts.
The city announced on the 5th that it plans to issue a bid notice next month for the turnkey (design and construction lump-sum) project of the Line 7 Cheongna extension, with a project cost of 649.5 billion KRW.
The Cheongna extension project was initially put out for bid in November last year but failed. When re-bid, only one construction company participated in each of Section 1 (Seoknam-dong to Cheongna 1st Culture Park) and Section 2 (Cheongna 1st Culture Park to Cheongna 5th Bridge), resulting in another failed bid.
Accordingly, the city decided to combine Sections 1 and 2 into a single contract and adjusted the scoring weight for design and price from the previous 60:40 ratio to 70:30.
An Incheon city official stated, "We will complete all administrative procedures by January and issue the bid notice in February to ensure there is no delay in the scheduled opening in 2027."
The Seoul Subway Line 7 Cheongna extension project involves extending the line 10.7 km from Seoknam Station on Line 7 to Cheongna International City Station on the Airport Railroad, constructing six stations along the route. The total project cost of 1.3 trillion KRW will be covered by 60% national funds and 40% city funds. Construction is planned to start in the second half of next year, aiming for opening in the first half of 2027.
The Line 7 Cheongna extension trains will operate at 6-minute intervals during peak hours and 12-minute intervals during off-peak hours. Transfers will be possible at Airport Railroad Cheongna International City Station, Incheon Line 2 Seoknam Station, and Incheon Line 1 Bupyeong-gu Office Station.
Once Seoul Line 7 is extended from Seoknam Station to Cheongna International City Station, travel time from Cheongna to Seoul Guro will be reduced from the current 78 minutes to 42 minutes, and direct travel to Gangnam without transfers will be possible, improving accessibility to Seoul.
