Renault Samsung QM6, Monthly Sales Leader in Domestic SUV Market
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Renault Samsung Motors' flagship mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV), the QM6, has risen to the top of the domestic monthly SUV sales chart just six months after launching its facelifted model.
The QM6, three years after its domestic launch, released the facelifted model 'THE NEW QM6' in June last year, introducing the country's only LPG SUV to the domestic market for the first time. Following the approval for general sales of LPG vehicles, the QM6 LPe, the only LPG SUV in Korea, established itself alongside the existing gasoline SUV QM6 GDe, driving increased sales.
In December last year, the QM6 solidified its status as a popular model by recording 7,558 units sold, ranking first not only in the mid-size SUV market but also in the overall SUV market.
Renault Samsung's THE NEW QM6 ranked second in the mid-size SUV market for the first time since its launch in July last year (4,262 units), and maintained the second position with total sales of 23,237 units over five months until November. Finally, in December, it leapt to first place in the domestic SUV market.
Renault Samsung explained the success factors of the QM6 as 'pursuit of value for customers' and 'trend-leading products.' Renault Samsung has been quick to identify customer needs and built a unique powertrain lineup to meet these trends, while striving to provide high quality and service.
The QM6 LPe, Korea's only LPG SUV equipped with a donut tank, accounted for 43.5% (20,726 units) of QM6 sales last year by emphasizing superior economy. The QM6 LPe features a donut tank installed in the spare tire space under the trunk and patented mounting system technology that ensures top-level safety for rear seat passengers in rear-end collisions, while preserving the trunk usability, a key advantage of SUVs.
