Lee Haechan: "Prosecution's Delayed Indictment Proves Need for Reform... Investigative Authority Adjustment Bill Will Pass in January"
Lee Haechan Vows to File Additional Complaints Against Liberty Korea Party Lawmakers
Based on Newly Collected Evidence
[Asia Economy, Reporter Won Dara, Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Lee Haechan, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized the prosecution's delayed indictment regarding the Fast-Track (expedited bill) case and declared that the bill to adjust investigative authority between the police and prosecution would be passed without fail in January. He also emphasized that the party would file a complaint against Liberty Korea Party lawmakers for violating the National Assembly Advancement Act during the process of passing the budget bill and the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) Act in December last year.
At an expanded executive meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 26th, Lee said, "The prosecution indicted Liberty Korea Party lawmakers who violated the National Assembly Act in April last year only after eight months had passed into the new year," and criticized, "Despite overwhelming evidence, they failed to properly summon and investigate, and only then filed delayed indictments."
He continued, "Watching this process, I once again felt that the prosecution truly needs reform," stressing, "Following the CIO Act, we will ensure that the bill adjusting investigative authority between the prosecution and police is also passed in January." He also pointed out, "It is deplorable that the prosecution is not only indulging in prosecutorial convenience but is also arbitrarily exercising its right to indict."
He added, "The Liberty Korea Party committed outrageous acts during the passage of the budget bill and the CIO Act in December last year," and declared, "We will collect evidence of those incidents again and file a complaint at the party level," stating, "The Liberty Korea Party should abandon any expectation that they can escape responsibility after creating such a 'zoo parliament.'"
