Discovery of Three Kingdoms Era Beacon Fire at Bonghwabongseo, Jangsu-gun
Jangsu-gun, Jeonbuk announced on the 2nd that an ancient beacon fire station was discovered at Bonghwabong in Oseong-ri, Sanseo-myeon. This beacon fire station, found in collaboration with Gunsan University’s Gaya Culture Research Institute, was constructed using granite-type stone materials. The wall stones were stacked in six layers. The base of the beacon fire station (bongdae) measures approximately 8 meters in length and about 1 meter in height. Although the upper part of the bongdae has collapsed, making it difficult to confirm the fire-starting facilities, the overall condition of the beacon fire station remains relatively good.

The investigation team also found a flat area about 20 meters south of the bongdae, presumed to be the living space of the beacon fire personnel. Jangsu-gun estimates that the Bonghwabong beacon fire station, along with the Sanseong beacon fire station in Yudeung-myeon, Sunchang-gun, and the Wonsubong beacon fire station in Jangsu, were used as beacon fire stations during the Three Kingdoms period. County Governor Jang Young-su stated, “This research on the structure of the Three Kingdoms period beacon fire stations will contribute not only to understanding their construction but also to clarifying the identity of the Gaya forces in the Jeonbuk region.”
