On the 2nd, Yoon Se-a shared a post from the animal protection organization KARA on her Instagram with the caption, "How dangerous is this event?" The posted photo showed colorful balloons flying into the Jeju sky.
Yoon Se-a also expressed her sorrow by replying to comments from netizens such as "It’s only thinking about humans," and "I thought it was foreigners, but it’s in our country... I’m speechless," with responses like "In the end... it will come back to (humans)" and "My neck is stiff."
The animal protection organization KARA expressed anger, saying, "Countless colorful balloons flew into the clean Jeju sea area," and "What should we do about the birds that will slowly lose their legs entangled in balloon strings, and the birds and fish that will die in pain after eating the colorful balloons thinking they are food?"
They added, "Animal Rights Action KARA immediately requested Jeju City Hall to collect all retrievable balloons and to hold those responsible accountable and apologize," and "We will take actions to prevent such foolish events from happening again."
Following public opinion that various colored balloons released into the sky pose a threat to wildlife, local governments have recently been canceling New Year's balloon release events. Gyeonggi Province decided to completely ban balloon releases at events held by its 31 cities and counties and affiliated organizations during this year-end and New Year period.
On the 30th of last month, a petition titled "Please stop the New Year's balloon release" was posted on the Blue House's national petition board.

The petitioner appealed, "New Year's balloon release events are still included in New Year's celebrations across the country," and "Do the balloons released at New Year's events carry wishes and reach the sky? In the end, they either burst or deflate and fall onto land, sea, rivers, or lakes."
