Alternative New Party Gwangju Metropolitan City Party Pays Tribute at 5·18 Democratic Cemetery for the New Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] The Gwangju Metropolitan City Party of the Alternative New Party announced on the 2nd at 9:30 a.m. that it has begun earnest efforts to capture public sentiment, starting with a visit to the National 5.18 Democratic Cemetery to commemorate the New Year of the Year of the Rat.
At the 5.18 Democratic Cemetery visit that day, about 100 core party members attended, including Choi Kyunghwan, chairman of the Alternative New Party Gwangju City Party, National Assembly members Cheon Jeongbae and Jang Byeongwan, and prospective candidates Kim Seonghwan (Dongnam-eul) and Kim Myeongjin (Seogu-gap), to offer flowers and incense and reaffirm their determination to lead the victory in the 21st general election.
Chairman Choi Kyunghwan said, “With the 40th anniversary of the 5.18 Democratization Movement approaching this year and the formation of the 5.18 Truth Investigation Committee, expectations for uncovering the truth are higher than ever. The Alternative New Party will establish itself as a representative party inheriting the spirit of Honam, loved not only by Honam but also by the nation, and will do its best to win the upcoming April 15 general election through the consolidation and unification of the third political force.”
Assemblyman Cheon Jeongbae said, “This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Gwangju Uprising. This year, we must achieve complete truth investigation, punishment, and conferment of honors to the sacrificed citizens to properly honor the May spirits and the spirit of Gwangju.”
Assemblyman Jang Byeongwan said, “We will do our utmost to reveal the truth of the 5.18 Gwangju Democratization Movement, which has been concealed for 40 years, to punish those responsible, and to restore the honor of the victims.”
Alternative New Party prospective National Assembly candidate Kim Seonghwan (Dongnam-eul) said, “This is a meaningful year marking the 40th anniversary of the 5.18 Gwangju Democratization Movement. Alternative New Party prospective National Assembly candidate Kim Myeongjin (Seogu-gap) said, “On the 40th anniversary of the 5.18 Gwangju Democratization Movement, we will reveal all the truths of 5.18 and open an era of governance by the Honam reform forces inheriting the spirit of democracy, human rights, and peace of 5.18,” and added, “We will create a victorious 2020 by opening an era of governance by the Honam reform forces with New DJ politics inheriting the DJ spirit.”
