Having established its Korean subsidiary 'Xiaomi Korea' earlier this year and officially entering the local market, Xiaomi has so far focused on launching mid- to low-priced smartphones emphasizing cost-effectiveness. On the 10th of this month, it introduced the 'Poco X7 Pro', a smartphone under its sub-brand Poco priced in the 400,000 won range, and last year, it launched the 'Redmi 14C', a smartphone in the 100,000 won range, in Korea.

On the 2nd of this month (local time), Xiaomi unveiled the 'Xiaomi 15 Series' at a new product launch event held in Barcelona, Spain. Among them, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra won the 'Best of Show' award at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025.

Leica Camera Applied... Domestic Price Expected to Exceed 2 Million Won

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra features an exterior design reminiscent of a camera. Xiaomi explained that this design was adopted to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Leica's camera 'Leica 1', released in 1925.

As the device adopts a camera-like appearance, Xiaomi emphasizes its enhanced camera performance. The main camera is equipped with a Leica Summilux optical lens and an 8P aspherical high-transmittance lens, supporting 14-200mm optical zoom. It offers a 70mm Leica floating telephoto camera optimized for portrait and distance photography, and also supports macro photography using a large sensor. In addition, with a high dynamic range of 14EV, it can capture clear images even in environments as dark as night.

The key factor is expected to be the price. Xiaomi set the global launch price of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra at 1499 euros (approximately 2.28 million KRW for the 512GB model) during the public event held this month. Xiaomi plans to announce the domestic price on the release date, the 25th of this month, and considering the exchange rate, it is highly likely that the price will exceed 2 million KRW.

The application processor (AP), which serves as the brain of the smartphone, is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile. Storage options include 512GB or 1TB with UFS 4.1 technology, and it is equipped with 16GB of RAM. The display features a 6.73-inch WQHD+ AMOLED panel, offering a maximum brightness of 3,200 nits. The resolution is 3200x1440, with a pixel density of 522ppi.

Artificial intelligence (AI) features are also included. The device comes with Xiaomi HyperOS 2, an Android-based operating system, integrated with Google's AI service Gemini and Xiaomi's own HyperAI. It also supports AI live wallpapers, AI image expansion, AI image quality enhancement, AI live translation, AI search, and more.

The weight varies by color, ranging from 226 to 229g, and it is available in three colors: black, white, and silver chrome.

Meanwhile, the tablet PC 'Xiaomi Pad 7', which is being released together, is equipped with the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 AP. It weighs 500g and has a thickness of 6.18mm. The 11-inch display offers 3.2K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, and 800 nits of brightness. It also supports AI features such as text generation, image editing, and real-time meeting information extraction with Xiaomi HyperAI. It is compatible with accessories such as a floating keyboard, magnetic keyboard, and focus pen. The battery capacity is 8,850mAh, supporting 45W fast charging.

Both products launching in Korea this time are equipped with HyperOS 2, Xiaomi's newly released operating system (OS) this month. Xiaomi HyperOS 2, based on Android, focuses on overall performance improvements. In addition, advanced encryption algorithms have been applied to transmitted data to reduce the risk of data leakage. In particular, to protect personal information, all user data is stored separately on servers in Singapore and Europe.

A Xiaomi Korea representative explained, "The launch of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Xiaomi Pad 7 is part of our efforts to meet the diverse needs of Korean consumers," adding, "In particular, the 15 Ultra, which is being released this time, is a flagship model that encapsulates Xiaomi's technological prowess and will offer a new option for Korean consumers seeking the best performance for the price."
