Moon Da-hye (41), the daughter of former President Moon Jae-in, appeared at the police station after being booked on charges of drunk driving (violation of the Road Traffic Act) in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.

On the afternoon of the 18th, at around 1:40 p.m., Moon arrived at the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul with a stern expression. When asked by reporters, "How much did you drink that day?" she briefly replied, "I'm sorry," before entering the police station.

Instead, through a written apology, she stated, "I believe expressing myself in writing allows me to be more sincere, so I would like to offer my apologies in this way," and added, "I sincerely apologize once again to the driver and his family who were affected by my wrongdoing." She continued, "Thanks to the driver reporting the incident, I was able to stop driving and avoid a bigger accident. I am grateful that he accepted my apology after the accident."

"I feel that expressing my feelings in writing can be more honest, so I offer my sincere apologies this way."

Meanwhile, there was controversy online regarding the so-called "umbrella protocol" during Moon's appearance. At the moment she was about to get out of the car, her lawyer was seen holding an umbrella with both hands to shield her from the pouring rain. Even when Moon bowed her head in front of reporters, the umbrella remained in the lawyer's hands.

Seeing the lawyer constantly holding the umbrella for her, netizens reacted critically, saying, "Can't she hold her own umbrella?" "She's on her way to appear for a crime, she should hold the umbrella herself," "Is she really sorry?" "Doesn't look like she's reflecting," and "Is it okay for the lawyer to get wet?"

Moon is expected to return home after completing about an hour and a half of questioning that day.

Previously, at around 2:51 a.m. on the 5th, Moon was driving her Casper vehicle in front of the Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, when she changed lanes and collided with a following taxi. At the time, her blood alcohol concentration was 0.149%, which is above the license revocation threshold (0.08%). It was found that there were no passengers in Moon's vehicle.

It has also been reported that Moon proposed a settlement to the taxi driver, the victim, and reached a criminal settlement. Through her lawyer, she delivered a handwritten letter expressing her apologies, stating that she was "sorry for being flustered." If the victim had submitted a medical certificate, charges of dangerous driving resulting in injury under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes could have been considered, but since a settlement was reached, it is now likely that only the drunk driving charge will apply.
