Pusan National University and Southeast Regional Data Office Join Forces to Foster Data Convergence Talent
Strengthening Collaboration in Data Science Education
Expanding Utilization of Regional Statistics and Public Data
The Graduate School of Data Science at Pusan National University (headed by Kwangyeol Ryu) announced on the 7th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Southeast Regional Data Office (headed by Chaekwan Byung) to foster talent in data science convergence and to advance regional statistics.
The two institutions held the signing ceremony at Gaon Hall in the Pusan National University Museum on the morning of the 6th, agreeing to establish a cooperative framework for data-driven education and research, as well as the development of regional statistics.
Under the agreement, the two institutions will collaborate in various fields, including strengthening data utilization capabilities, operating data science education programs, and providing in-depth data analysis consulting for the development of regional specialized statistics, leveraging their respective expertise and infrastructure.
The Southeast Regional Data Office is an organization that has focused on producing statistics and data based on social demand for the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions, as well as creating an ecosystem for data analysis and utilization.
Established in 2024, the Graduate School of Data Science at Pusan National University is a specialized graduate school that conducts convergence education and research in AI, big data, statistics, and engineering. With this agreement, the school plans to further strengthen its model for regional data-based education and research collaboration.
In particular, as a result of the agreement, graduate students and faculty of the Graduate School of Data Science at Pusan National University will be exempt from data center usage fees, except for on-demand analysis and data storage services.
This is expected to improve accessibility to public data-based research and expand the foundation for empirical studies and policy analysis aimed at solving regional community issues.
Kwangyeol Ryu, Dean of the Graduate School of Data Science at Pusan National University, stated, "This agreement is an important starting point connecting data science education and the advancement of regional statistics," adding, "The combination of Pusan National University's educational and research capabilities with the statistical and data expertise of the Southeast Regional Data Office will play a meaningful role in solving local community issues, nurturing convergence-type talent, and advancing the data ecosystem."
