Visit to Be Announced at Regular Press Conference
Big Hit Music announced on May 7 that BTS will meet with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum ahead of their concert in Mexico City.
On the morning of May 6 (local time), President Sheinbaum personally announced during her regular morning press conference, Mañanera, that BTS is scheduled to visit the presidential office. BTS will greet citizens from the balcony of the presidential office, which will be opened for the occasion. President Sheinbaum praised BTS's music, saying, "It always delivers messages of friendship, peace, and love."
President Sheinbaum previously welcomed the announcement of the concert in January, calling it a "historic moment." She also emphasized that the concert is something the local youth have been waiting for a long time.
BTS's visit is also highly anticipated for its economic impact. The Mexico City Chamber of Commerce estimated that the concert will generate an economic ripple effect of approximately 107.5 million dollars (about 155.7 billion won).
According to data from the music streaming platform Spotify, Mexico is the fifth-largest market in the world for K-pop streaming. BTS was selected as the most-streamed artist among local K-pop fans.
BTS's fourth full-length album, "Map of the Soul: 7," released in 2020, was listed as the most-streamed K-pop album in Mexico. Eight out of the top ten albums were BTS works. The song "Dynamite" also ranked first as the most-streamed track locally.
The daily newspaper El Universal reported that Mexico City is the city where BTS's music is streamed the most.
