While the official did not officially confirm the possibility of President Xi's visit to North Korea, the government sent a principled message stressing that exchanges between the North Korean and Chinese leaders should not escalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
Previously, Time magazine reported that President Xi could pay a state visit to North Korea as early as next week. If the visit takes place, it would mark his first trip to Pyongyang in about seven years since June 2019. At that time, President Xi, as China's top leader, visited North Korea for the first time in 14 years and held a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
