[6.3 Election] Min Hyung-bae Leads with 73%... Overwhelming Support in Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Mayor Race

Min Hyung-bae Receives 79% Among Highly Likely Voters... Lee Jung-hyun 6%, Lee Jong-wook 2%
In a poll measuring support for candidates in the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Metropolitan Mayor election ahead of the June 3 local elections, Min Hyung-bae, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate, was found to hold a commanding lead over other contenders with an approval rating exceeding 70%. Among highly likely voters, Min's support rate approached 80%.
According to a public opinion survey conducted by Korea Gallup at the request of the Gwangju-Jeonnam News Bureau of News1 on May 16–17, targeting 1,002 men and women aged 18 or older living in Gwangju and Jeonnam, Min Hyung-bae of the Democratic Party of Korea received a support rate of 73%.

View original imageLee Jung-hyun of the People Power Party recorded 6%, Lee Jong-wook of the Progressive Party received 2%, Kang Eun-mi of the Justice Party 1%, and Kim Kwang-man, an independent candidate, also received 1%. Respondents who answered "none" accounted for 8%, while "don't know/refused to answer" was 9%.
By age group, Min recorded a support rate of 76% among those in their 40s, and over 80% among those aged 50 and above.
Lee Jung-hyun garnered 11% support among respondents aged 18–29 and those in their 30s, but registered single-digit support rates in other age groups.
Regionally, Min received 66% in District 1, which includes Gwangju's Dong-gu, Nam-gu, and Buk-gu. In all other regions, including Gwangju's Seo-gu and Gwangsan-gu, as well as the eastern and western areas of Jeonnam, Min's support exceeded 70%.
Among voters who responded that they "will definitely vote," Min's support rate was 79%. Lee Jung-hyun received 5%, while Lee Jong-wook and Kang Eun-mi each received 2%, and Kim Kwang-man received 0%. "None" was 5%, and "don't know/refused to answer" was 7%.
When asked, "Will you continue to support your current preferred candidate?" 74% answered "will continue to support," 23% said "may change to someone else," and 2% responded "don't know/refused to answer."
By age, 53% of respondents aged 18–29 said they could change their support to another candidate, and among moderates, 38% gave the same response.

This survey was conducted using computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) with virtual wireless phone numbers provided by the three major mobile carriers. The margin of error was ±3.1 percentage points at the 95% confidence level, and the response rate was 16.2%.
