It aims to help students explore career paths, enhance their self-management skills, and deliver a message of challenge and growth to the younger generation. About 1,000 attendees, including students, faculty, prospective students, and their parents, are expected to participate.
In his lecture, Choo Shin-soo will speak under the theme, "What Is More Important Than Five Talents: The Sixth Talent I Discovered," candidly discussing the challenges and failures he faced on the world’s top stage, how he overcame slumps, and the importance of self-management and mental resilience.
Choo Shin-soo, a Major Leaguer representing Korean baseball, built a global reputation for his outstanding batting, on-base abilities, reliable defense, and rigorous self-discipline during his long career in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played for the Texas Rangers, Cleveland Indians, and Cincinnati Reds, and later contributed to the development of Korean baseball and the nurturing of younger players with the SSG Landers in the KBO League.
Choo has been recognized as a "Five-Tool" player in the Major Leagues, possessing abilities in hitting, power, fielding, base running, and throwing. In the special lecture, he plans to share, based on his own experiences, how qualities such as perseverance through failure, consistency, and an unwavering mindset are even more important than these five talents.
He will also discuss the cultural and linguistic challenges he faced living in the United States, overcoming injuries and slumps, and the self-management strategies he practiced to survive at the highest level of competition, offering practical advice and motivational messages to students.
The lecture will be hosted by actor Kim Jaewon, who is active in various fields, including dramas, movies, and variety shows. Known for his engaging and relatable hosting style, Kim is expected to create a welcoming and interactive atmosphere that resonates with the youth audience.
There will also be a Q&A session, allowing participants to communicate directly with Choo Shin-soo. Attendees are expected to gain firsthand insights on challenges, personal growth, and realistic advice on career and self-management from one of Korea’s leading sports stars.
Lee Dongwoo, Dean of the College of Health Sciences, stated, “Choo Shin-soo has embodied self-management and a spirit of challenge on the world’s greatest stage. We hope this special lecture becomes an opportunity for students to learn how to proactively design their lives and build resilience.”
