Kim Byungwook Strongly Denies "Dome Stadium Completed in 4 Years" Claim, Calls It a Typical Smear Campaign
Kim Byungwook, Seongnam Mayoral Candidate, Strongly Condemns Shin Sangjin's "False Dome Stadium Claim"
"Despicable Smear Campaign Fabricating 'Completion Within Four Years' Statement Never Made"
"Typical Old-School Politics Twisting the Facts... Criticizes Deception of Voters"
The campaign office of Kim Byungwook, candidate for Mayor of Seongnam from the Democratic Party of Korea, strongly condemned on May 20 the claim by candidate Shin Sangjin regarding the "completion of the dome stadium within four years," calling it "a despicable smear campaign fabricating words that were never spoken out of thin air."

The campaign office of Shin Sangjin has recently continued negative attacks targeting Kim's promise to build a dome stadium, raising issues with the phrase "completion in four years." In response, Kim's campaign made it clear that such a statement was never made, pointing out that "this is a malicious act of arbitrarily fabricating the opponent’s remarks to create grounds for negative campaigning."
At a press conference held on May 18, Kim Byungwook responded to a reporter's question about the construction timeline by saying, "If I am elected, I believe construction of the dome stadium can begin in three years."
Regarding Shin Sangjin's existing remodeling plan, Kim criticized, "It is far from sufficient to fully meet Seongnam's future and the citizens’ rapidly growing demand for culture and sports. I clearly point out that it is nothing more than a temporary fix, not a fundamental solution. If the first step is taken incorrectly, even after investing tens of billions of won, we could face a situation where a complete reconstruction at enormous additional cost is required." He emphasized, "We will prove the results through the construction of a multi-purpose dome stadium, a city transformation project preparing for the next 50 years."
Kim Byungwook stated, "If you lack the capability and cannot compete fairly with policy, you should at least be truthful," adding, "Politics that disguises lies as truth and misleads citizens with distorted figures cannot open the future for Seongnam."
He further urged Shin Sangjin to "immediately stop actions that undermine the election with baseless smear campaigns," and said, "The citizens of Seongnam are wise enough to distinguish between truth and falsehood. No matter the negativity, I will earn your support based solely on truth and competence without wavering."
