Building an AI Agricultural Operations Platform

Daedong is embarking on a transformation into a "global artificial intelligence (AI) agricultural operations platform" company. Through this transition, the company aims to achieve a 50% market share in South Korea by 2030 and expand into global markets by leveraging its dealer networks in North America and Europe.

On May 19, at the headquarters of Korea Investment & Securities in Yeouido, Seoul, Daedong unveiled its group’s mid- to long-term growth strategy and directions for enhancing corporate value at the "Daedong Group Investor Day." During the event, Daedong presented its vision to transition from an agricultural machinery manufacturing company to an "AI agricultural operations platform" company. The company plans to fully integrate agricultural physical AI technology, combining AI autonomous agricultural machinery, agricultural robots, connected services, precision agriculture, and smart farming into a unified operational system. This system will collect and analyze agricultural data, enable AI to recommend and determine optimal work methods, and allow AI agricultural robots to execute these tasks, thereby expanding its AI agricultural operations platform business in earnest.

Daedong’s initial strategy is to validate and advance its AI agricultural operations platform within South Korea. While the current domestic agricultural machinery market is estimated at 2 to 3 trillion won annually, the broader agricultural operations market—including labor, input resources, facility operations, and farm work management—is projected to reach 8 to 12 trillion won.Last year, Daedong secured a 376-hectare (approximately 1.14 million pyeong) precision agriculture demonstration site in Saemangeum and has been collecting precision agriculture data and verifying AI autonomous operations focused on strategic crops such as soybeans and wheat. Through its precision agriculture demonstration project for garlic in Boeun, Chungbuk, Daedong also confirmed that participating farms achieved an average additional income increase of 26.2%.

In the greenhouse agriculture platform segment, Daedong is promoting the construction of 21.6 hectares of AI greenhouses through the National Agricultural AX Platform Project in Muan, Jeonnam. This project serves as a nationwide initiative to validate AI-based smart farming and data operations technologies at scale and is expected to become a key reference for assessing the commercialization potential of AI agricultural operations platforms in the greenhouse sector.

Based on these efforts, Daedong has set a target for its domestic business to achieve sales of 445.3 billion won and a 50% market share by 2030. Starting from projected domestic sales of 249.6 billion won in 2025, the company aims to realize an average annual growth rate of 12.3% through 2030.

In the North American market, Daedong plans to strengthen its presence in the small and medium-sized farming segment by introducing AI tractors and connected precision agriculture solutions. The company intends to leverage its dealer and service networks to offer 90–140 horsepower AI tractors and precision agriculture solutions at competitive prices, thereby reducing the initial adoption burden for small and medium-sized farms and rapidly expanding AI agricultural operations services. Through this, Daedong aims to increase its North American sales from 718.2 billion won in 2025 to approximately 1 trillion won by 2030, boost its market share from the current 9% to 12%, and expand its dealer network from 571 to 1,100 locations.

In Europe, Daedong will focus on expanding its mid- to large-sized tractor and AI precision agriculture business by leveraging its existing dealer assets. The company aims to grow its European sales to 258.3 billion won by 2030, increase its market share from the current 2.3% to 6%, and expand its dealer network from 551 locations in 26 countries to 900 locations.

Na Youngjung, Head of Group Management Office at Daedong, stated, "Daedong is at a turning point, moving beyond being an agricultural machinery sales company to become an agricultural operations platform company based on agricultural physical AI. By building an operational structure where every stage of agriculture is determined by AI—connecting data, equipment, execution, and performance verification to actual revenue—we aim to have our corporate value re-evaluated as an AI agricultural company."
