Financial Security Institute Discusses AI Security Strategies and Cooperation with Japan's Financial Services Agency and Anthropic Japan
President Park Delivers Keynote Speech at Japan Financial ISAC Conference
Park Sangwon, President of the Financial Security Institute, visited Japan to discuss artificial intelligence (AI) security strategies and ways to strengthen global cooperation with Japan's Financial Services Agency, the Japan Financial Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC), and the Japanese branch of Anthropic.
According to the Financial Security Institute on May 20, President Park attended the Japan Financial ISAC Annual Conference held on May 18 and 19, where he delivered a keynote speech on the topic of "Changes in Financial Security and Future Directions for Leading Digital Finance."
In his speech, President Park stated, "Emerging technologies such as AI and digital assets can drive financial innovation but also introduce new security threats." He emphasized the importance of "security by design," which means embedding security at the software (SW) design stage, as well as strengthening internal controls, establishing zero trust-based security systems, spreading a company-wide security culture, and enhancing third-party security and resilience. He further highlighted the need for close collaboration with specialized organizations such as the Financial Security Institute, in addition to strengthening the security capabilities of financial institutions themselves.
During the event, President Park shared concerns over potential cyber threats posed by advanced AI technologies, including the frontier AI model 'Mythos,' with stakeholders from the United States and Japan. He also shared updates on how the domestic financial sector is responding and its future plans, and exchanged opinions on the response strategies of major countries.
Additionally, he visited Japan's Financial Services Agency to discuss the status of AI security and policy response measures in both countries with officials including Counselor Kenji Oki. He then visited the Japanese branch of Anthropic, the developer of Mythos, to meet with Akira Yoshida, Head of Korea-Japan Policy, where they discussed the impact of AI-based security threats, response strategies in the financial sector, and the potential for collaboration with the domestic financial industry.
