Commuting in Magok District to Become Faster as Straight Lanes Increase and Signal Timing Is Adjusted

Changed to Two Straight Lanes... Dispersing Traffic Flow
Straight Signal toward Magok District Extended by 4 Seconds
Commuter traffic flow in the Gangseo-ro area of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, which had been congested due to the development of the Magok district, is being improved. A new straight lane connecting major routes has been added, and traffic signal times have also been extended.
On May 20, Seoul City announced that it has recently completed a traffic improvement project and started operating a new traffic system for the section of Gangseo-ro in Gayang-dong, Gangseo-gu, spanning from Olympic-daero to Gayang Underpass to Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station intersection.

For the Gayang Underpass to Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station direction, where traffic volume has increased due to the occupancy of Magok General Industrial Complex and LG Science Park, the lane system was changed to "two straight lanes" from the previous configuration. As a result, the previously concentrated straight traffic demand on one lane has now been dispersed to two lanes, which is expected to improve the flow of vehicles heading towards Olympic-daero, Gangseo-ro, Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station, and the Magok district.
At the intersection in front of Daea Apartment, the number of straight lanes was expanded from two to three. Additionally, left-turn and U-turn pocket lanes were introduced to allow straight-going vehicles to pass through the intersection more smoothly than before.
At the Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station intersection, the straight signal time toward the Magok district was extended by approximately four seconds, further improving traffic flow. The city developed and implemented this improvement plan after consultations with relevant organizations, including Gangseo-gu Office, Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, and Gangseo Police Station.

Previously, in the past year, Seoul City also carried out traffic improvement projects on Gayang-daero (lane expansion), the intersection at the entrance of Chung-Ang University Hospital (extension of waiting lanes), and Junggye Station intersection (removal of double stop lines and intersection maintenance). Kim Sangshin, Director of Traffic Operations at Seoul City, stated, "We are improving traffic conditions in congested urban areas by optimizing lane operations and adjusting signal timings. Moving forward, we will continue to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance driver safety and convenience through similar traffic improvement measures."
